How long does it take to go through all these steps?
Entirely too long, unfortunately. In Indiana, recent processing times at each of the stages have been running as follows:
- Initial Claim: around 80 days
- Request for Reconsideration: 4-6 months
- Hearing Stage: average time from date that hearing was requested until the hearing was held (as of 9/29/2009):
- Indianapolis — 650 days.
- Evansville – 353 days
- Fort Wayne – 704 days
- Appeals Council review: about 7 months from the date the request is filed until the Appeals Council issues its decision
- Federal District Court appeal: approximately 10-18 months
